Imagining No-Place
(Transportable sculpture and conversation, 2015)

Utopia lies at the horizon.
When I draw nearer by two steps,
it retreats two steps.
If I proceed ten steps forward, it
swiftly slips ten steps ahead.
No matter how far I go, I can never reach it.
What, then, is the purpose of utopia?
It is to cause us to advance."
(Eduardo Galeano)

Imagining No-Place was the result of a residency with CAT Cologne e.v. in Cologne, Germany. After constructing a small island, the project travelled across Cologne asking members of the public for their ideas to contribute to a new utopia, a no-place created together - things they wanted to bring with them, and new ideas that don't exist where we are right now.

Some of the suggestions for 'No-Place' include:

"No clothes!"
"When leaves fall you hear music"
"A chocolate mountain!"
"Water slides to travel to work"
"A beach bar next to a ski slope"
"Being able to hold my breath for as long as I want"
